I'd like to get some definitive answers working for me before I step further into the unknown.) (If you assume I can't easily experiment to answer these questions on my own, you are right. Which is it?Ĭan the Host and the Guest be in the same subnet (e.g., both in 192.168.0.0/24) or might that lead to trouble?

Since the bridge driver is in the Host, I'm unsure whether it utilizes the Host's HOSTS file or the Guest's HOSTS file for local DNS - they are different. I assume that the bridge driver in the Host implements an independent OSI network stack, right? And I know it requires a driver in the Host, but despite that driver being in the Host, the Host and the Guest are independent and cannot inter-network over the bridge. Okay, I know that a virtual bridge uses the MAC addresses to "route" messages on the OSI model's link layer. I'm consistenly impressed with the level of VirtualBox documentation, but I can't find answers to these silly questions.
